Bratislava Sights, Sounds and Hotels

Since Bratislava Castle’s original foundations were laid in the 9th century, it has been rebuilt many times, and has served as a Slavic fortress before Hungarian King Sigismund expanded the castle into a royal residence in the 15th century, accommodation for the students of the General Seminary, and then army barracks when the Habsburgs turned it into a victorious bastion of defence against the Turks. Dominating the city skyline from a hill above the Danube River, which was a frontier post of the Roman Empire from the 1st to the 5th century, the castle’s current design, fittingly described as an ‘upside-down table’, dates from the 17th century, although it was completely rebuilt between 1953 and 1968 after a disastrous fire in 1811. Climb up for excellent views of the southern Carpathian mountains and Austria, and to visit the Slovak National Museum.

Bratislava Castle is one of the unique and interesting sites and sounds that you will be fortunate enough to see during your visit to Bratislava. The welcoming Bratislava Hotels will be the reason you return again.
